Photograph albums of Mrs. Lewis Percival. [ca. 1850-ca. 1899]

Most of the prints are albumen and many are carte-de-visite size. Prints include views of England, France, Italy, Gibralter, Morocco, Spain, Malta, Belgium, Germany, Scotland, as well as ca. 50 views of India (including Darjeeling, Bombay, Calcutta, Kanpur, Benares, Simla, Agra, portraits of northern Indians, and temple studies). Albums also contain many portraits of family members in Quebec, Canada and Dumfriesshire, Scotland, as well as in England. Other portrait studies include friends, military figures, school groups, General Grant and Queen Victoria. Photographers include Felice Beato, Samuel Bourne, William Notman.

Samuel Bourne (1834-1912) was born in Shropshire, England, and began taking photographs around 1855. He joined the photography firm Howard & Shepherd around 1864, which eventually became Bourne & Shepherd and had offices in Calcutta, Simla, and Bombay.
